INTERMEDIATE PHASE

INTERMEDIATE LICENSE ONLY APPLIES TO DRIVERS UNDER 18

AND LASTS FOR A PERIOD OF 180 DAYS

After holding a Driver's Permit for 180 days, you are eligible for an Intermediate License.  In order to obtain the Intermediate License, you must pass the road test.

Road tests are administered by the Kentucky State Police and are by appointment only.  Please call 270-746-7419 to schedule your road test.

The vehicle used for testing must be properly registered and proof of insurance is required.  The driver's parent/guardian MUST certify that the driver has completed at least 60 hours of practice driving, 10 of which MUST occur at night.

IF YOU DO NOT PASS THE ROAD TEST:

Drivers must wait seven days before taking the road test again.

If the driver fails the road test 6 times, they must wait 6 months before another test will be given.  they will then have only 2 attempts to pass the test.

IF YOU PASS THE ROAD TEST:

KSP will place an orange 'Intermediate License' sticker on the driver's permit.  KSP are the only ones who can place or replace an orange sticker for you.

After holding the Intermediate License for 180 days, or once the driver turns 18 years old, the driver will then be eligible for a full, unrestricted license, provided that the driver (if under 18) has completed the required driver education course.
